Here's the deal

Description of a business for sale:
1.) Been on the market for over two years.
2.) Owned by a Korean man.
3.) Property is dated.
4.) Price is non-negotiable.
5.) Must be purchased in “as is” condition.
6.) Owner refuses to see buyers who want a formal inspection of the property.
7.) Owner will not provide any paid or unpaid training in running the business.

One would think "what kind of a moron would buy this place?"

My father! that's who!

The Last Argument:
Me: dad, it's been on the market for two years. There's a reason why no one's bought it.

Father: it's because it's in such a rural area.

Me: and you want to go there because?

Father: it's cheap

Me: it's still overpriced for the area

Father: no it's cheap compared to California

Me: what about the inspection?

Father: no need. The owner told be the basics about the property. It's in pretty okay condition
except it's a little old.

Me: and the owner is American?

Father: Korean

Me: Dad. Don't trust Korean people! They're all liars!

Father: You never say that about Korean people! You're Korean! It's suspicious people like you that make it so that honest Korean people can't to business with one another! Besides, it's all finished and done with!

Me: What if something is wrong with the place?

Father: Nothing is wrong! You just worry about school.

Me: Fine you said it! I'm just going to worry about school and MY work. If something goes wrong, don't bother me.

Father: I won't call you for help even if I die!

Me: How long is he going to train you anyway.

Father: There's no training. The owner says that there's nothing to it. Besides, I had a Chevron before.

Me: almost 10 years ago.

Father: Same thing.

Aftermath
So my father decided to buy that gas station from the Korean man who refused to sell if my dad asked for an inspection at a full and non-negociable price without any training.

Father died of course, which is why I am in this hell hole in the outskits of civilization right now.

We had to paint dingy areas.

The roof leaks terribly. you could literally shower where the leak is when it gets really bad. When you go up on the roof, you can see that the previous owner used stuff that looked like different colored play dough to cover up all of the leaks.

The air conditioning had to be checked at least 7 times since last July.

Some of the tile is cracked.

A lot of the merchandise had to be thrown away because there were so many expired snacks and food.

We had to go through endless unorganized mounds of files to get all of our contacts for the business (such as who we called to order coca cola, pepsi, snacks, lay's chips, beer) and whenever we called the previous owner, he would give us an attitude that showed that he got rid of his burdensome business and wants nothing more to do with it. Whenever we ask for something or for some help, he just says "I don't know" son of a bitch. At least I know that he's not a Christian.

That's why I'm so angry. I can tell my mom is frustrated too because she was looking though the legal forms to see if there was anything we could do and they all say that father had signed the paper stating that he was going to buy the property and has on his own free will and decided to skip any inspections.

Stupid moron.

Ugh... seriously, I would be pretty mad if I were in your position. "Why didn't you just listen to me? You can't just do business strangers who won't give in to simple requests...". I hope everything goes well for you and that you get to come back to UCR really really soon.
